Nozomi and Mizuho need an additional special ticket with the national pass. Include that cost above if applicable. Do not count accommodation, admissions or uncovered local travel as pass savings.
Example: Tokyo–Kyoto return on Hikari
The published usual-season adult Ordinary reserved-seat SmartEX reference is ¥13,650 one way between Tokyo and Kyoto. Two eligible one-way tickets total ¥27,300. Against a 7-day Ordinary pass at the official-online price of ¥50,000, tickets cost ¥22,700 less for those two journeys alone.
These are station-to-station reference prices, checked October 13, 2026, not a quote for your departure date. Other trains, seasons, discounts and local connections can change the result. Official SmartEX fare table · Official pass prices

What the result means
The calculator above compares your entered ticket total with the selected checked pass price and extra costs. The planning tools separately use stored coverage and route references to suggest a shortlist. They do not fetch live fares; unknown costs remain unknown, and pass validity must be checked for your actual travel dates.
