A few things before you go.
Do I need a nationwide JR Pass?
It depends on your covered journeys. The 7-day adult Ordinary pass is ¥50,000 through the official online store; overseas agency prices differ. A Tokyo–Kyoto return alone usually does not justify it. Compare regional passes and individual tickets too.

The nationwide JAPAN RAIL PASS requires a separate special ticket for Nozomi and Mizuho. Regional passes have their own rules. Check the exact product and route with the operator.
