Route guide

Osaka to Hiroshima by train

Start the intercity journey at Shin-Osaka. Osaka Station and Namba require a local connection before the Shinkansen.

Route and time

Travel from Shin-Osaka to Hiroshima on the Sanyo Shinkansen. Around 1½ hours is a rough planning guide for faster services; train stops and departures differ. Check JR West’s route search and add local transfer time.

A regional pass worth comparing

The Kansai-Hiroshima Area Pass costs ¥17,000 for 5 consecutive days and includes Ordinary seats on this Shinkansen section. Compare it for a return journey and other covered trips. The ¥23,000 / 7-day Sanyo-San’in pass extends farther toward Hakata and the San’in coast.

Avoid the wrong coverage assumption

Kansai WIDE only covers the Shinkansen as far as Okayama, so it does not cover the entire ride to Hiroshima. Regional train rules differ from the nationwide JR Pass’s Nozomi / Mizuho supplement rule.

Hiroshima and Miyajima

Budget separately for uncovered local transport. The Kansai-Hiroshima pass includes the JR West Miyajima ferry, but the island’s ¥100 visitor tax is payable separately. Reserve train seats and an oversized baggage space when needed.

Our planners use stored route and fare estimates. They do not check live timetables, seat availability, disruption notices, date-specific fares or every private-rail supplement. Treat the result as a shortlist, then check your chosen trains with the operator.
