JR East Tohoku area Pass: replaced in 2026

Looking for the old Tohoku area pass? It is no longer sold. Use the new JR EAST PASS for a trip planned now.

What changed

JR East ended sales of the JR EAST PASS (Tohoku area) and JR EAST PASS (Nagano, Niigata area) on March 13, 2026. They were replaced by the wider JR EAST PASS from March 14. Historic ¥30,000 or ¥27,000 quotes should not be used for new purchases.

Current options

The new pass costs ¥35,000 for 5 consecutive days or ¥50,000 for 10 consecutive days for an adult. Both durations cover the same area. Start with the operator’s map and add the covered rail legs for Sendai, Morioka and Aomori.

Choose a useful itinerary

Price your actual return or onward journey before adding extra stops. A trip with only one short out-and-back ride may work better with individual tickets. Destination buses, some private railways, and Green Car upgrades need their own budget.

Our planners use stored route and fare estimates. They do not check live timetables, seat availability, disruption notices, date-specific fares or every private-rail supplement. Treat the result as a shortlist, then check your chosen trains with the operator.
